Occasionally overlooked when planning a video, the Sound Recordist has the important job of making sure the actors or interviewees can be heard properly.
Before filming, they will check the script to make sure they have all the equipment needed to capture the sound, and source anything they don’t have.
On set, they will put hidden radio microphones on the actors to record their voices, and possibly also operate a microphone (“Boom”) to record the general sound. They will also monitor and mix the sound from the different microphones to make sure it is being recorded properly and there are no problems that will affect the audio, such as a plane flying overhead, or a radio mic catching on the actor’s clothing.
