Jobs on Set: Lighting Cameraman

Your first time on set can be a confusing with so many people around doing different jobs. To help you understand exactly what everybody is up to, here is our guide to the main roles on set.

A Lighting Cameraman – also known as a Director of Photography (DoP) – is in charge of the ‘look’ of the video.

Before filming, they will work with the Director to decide how everything should be filmed, and to write a “shotlist” of the different shots needed to tell the story. From this they will decide what equipment will be needed to achieve this.

On set, they will choose the lighting and advise the Director on where the camera will be placed, to make sure all the different shots match and look as good as possible.

In this video, Lighting Cameraman Ben Turley discusses his role.
